School (Lunch) Is Out --

Weekend Reading - School Lunch and Childhood Hunger

When school lets out for the summer, thousands of kids in this country lose the free lunch they depend on every day. The school lunch program feeds 31 million kids nationally - 62% of whom are eligible for free or reduced price meals.

There are some summer feeding programs to close this gap but not enough - just 34 summer feeding sites for every 100 school lunch programs. American Progress has a great article with all the details
